Outfit Post: Fashion In Detroit

We may not be Paris or New York, but there is no doubt that Detroit has an emerging fashion scene. This could not have been more evident than at this past weekend's Fashion In Detroit event, where both local and national designers showcased their designs on the catwalk at the Motor City Casino's Soundboard.

I was lucky enough to be invited by the online "shop local" site, Styleshack - one of the event's sponsors and host of the media and blogger lounge. To me, being able to meet and network with other local bloggers and fashion fanatics was just as important as the actual show. There are few Detroit events that bring all the fashion experts and enthusiasts to one place, so it's imperative to take advantage of forming those connections.

And naturally when attending any sort of fashion event, the outfit pick is crucial. I debated between a too fancy (and too expensive) cocktail dress and an over-the-top high fashion look (that I'd probably never wear again). I ultimately settled on this very chic (and very "me") black and white outfit made up of pieces found in my closet. I may not have been the fanciest girl at the party, but I certainly stayed true to my own style.

Because while looking good is important, feeling like yourself is essential.

(It also doesn't hurt when you're told you have the best shoes at the event. Boom.)
