A STRIPEY PEPLUM

Hello pals! I am officially 33 today, which according to Facebook, is an auspicious & marvellous year. I'm off to a great start. Yesterday I spent a magical day skating in an ice maze with some close friends and the fella. Around every corner was a different petting zoo animal waiting to be stroked and fed. A chickadee landed on my hand, I ate frozen maple syrup and choreographed ice dances and only fell once. I even got to catch up on the phone with Sallie when I got home. So nice to be able to talk about Berninas and patterns with someone whose eyes don't glaze over at the mention of seam allowances.

I have taken off the "private" setting on my Instagram so feel free to check out yesterday's adventures under my user name Heather Lou.

In the meantime, here is a project I completed a few months ago. I loved this pattern when it  came out, one of the few releases from the Big 4 I've actually wanted to make in the last year or so. As usual, the ease was out of control, so I ended up taking in the medium quite a bit. It was yet another reminder why I prefer to sew indie patterns these days. So much less work to fit!

I used a stable knit leftover from my maxi dress. I love this stripe but it does have a tendency to pill. I skipped the elasticised waist because of the stretchy factor, but it does look better belted since it's not as fitted as I would like at the waist.

It's been a good top to wear with skinny trousers for work, but if I make this pattern again I'd elongate the peplum by an inch or so. I'm not really happy with where it sits on my hips.

I've been sewing almost every day, and finally got a chance to make the Georgia dress from By Hand London. WOWIE ZOWIE, is that a sexy dress. Hoping for a warmish weekend so I can get some shots of it outdoors without losing a limb to frostbite.

Keep well friends!
